I finally learned how to use this sharpener. Hold the tip down hard on a cutting board so BOTH the tip and handle are unmovable. Then slide the knife blade along the shaft as in the instructions. It doesn’t work if you just try to hold the shaft steady only by the handle.

I bought this for my son who is not use to using a steel. A 10″ steel is more appropriate, but a large knife is intimidating. He can get a smaller one later. It will last a lifetime!
