I am a longtime barbeque aficionado. As moderator of a well known grilling users group, some have considered me an expert. We all face one necessary but sometimes dreaded taskβgetting the grill clean quickly at the end of a cook with the least amount of grunt work possible. After trying dozens of brush types over decades, two years ago I settled on this exact style. It is terrific in getting the job done. YET READ ON! This brush is perfect for me but may not be for you for important safety reasons.THE BRUSH: FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES:First, the brush. I was concerned about the length being too long before getting my first one. But itβs not. If it would seem unbalanced to you, just choke up on the handle a bit. Itβs also highly preferable to clean your grill as it is cooling but still warm. The muck on the grates will come off with far less effort.WHY THE SAFTEY CONCERN?Many have ditched bristle brushes because there are countless cases of people ending up in the hospital from mistakenly eating a bristle piece that comes off the brush, gets on the food, and is ingested before doing serious damage. Many companies now sell plastic bristle brushes purely because of this issue.THEN WHY BUY A METAL BRISTLE BRUSH AT ALL?However, itβs a huge quandary. Those plasticized brushes MUST be used when the grill is still warm, and in my opinion, are frustratingly mediocre in getting the grill clean.Iβve settled on this exact design brush for effectiveness. Itβs great at what itβs supposed to do. But what about bristles coming loose? Yes, it happens, even though some marketers swear that their brush wonβt do it. Here in Florida I grill about twice a week year round. After about six months, bristles start to come out.ENSURING YOUR FAMILYβS SAFETY:So hereβs what I do:1) As soon as I see my first loose bristle, I order a new one on Amazon and I have it just a day later.2) EVERY TIME I BRUSH, I inspect the grates and to be sure no bristles are on them after Iβm done.3) EVERY TIME BEFORE I START TO COOK, I grab a couple of paper towels, hand rub the grates quickly and give a careful inspection. The gives double confidence no bristles are present, and also serves to wipe off any leftover grease on the grates following the cleaning. This may seem like a lot of work, but itβs simple and gives me confidence Iβm not feeding my kids bristles. Again, this style brush is the very best for cleaning quickly and efficiently. You wonβt notice any loose bristles at all for months, depending on how often you grill. When you see your first loose bristle, stop using the brush immediately!

I really like these – they are large, sturdy, strong and mine have NOT rusted even tho I tend to leave them hanging outside most of the year. They are comfortable for my smaller female hands. I especially like the tongs – they lock closed and provide a firm grip to lift or flip whatever you need, even a large steak.I do question the indication that they are suitable for the dishwasher. I like to wash them by hand, often because I need them again before I will run the machine, but also because I wanted the rubbery handles to last. Hubby ran the spatula thru the machine once and water got inside the rubber part. I can’t see that being good for longevity. So if using the dishwasher is important, you should probably not expect the tools to last as long as handwashing.I am only getting another set because one of the grandkids has food allergy issues, and we have to make sure we don’t contaminate his food. My original ones are still going strong.

Overall, love this set – my small complaint is about any and all tongs – they do not grip well. The ends need some teeth, nothing huge, but teeth to fully grip things like chicken thighs where the skin easily slips off the thigh, similar for legs and breasts with the skin. Also, turning or picking up larger steaks was sketchy and the meat would slip out.So….. I modded mine – see the pix.Now I can grab a whole pork tenderloin and sling it around without any risk of losing a grip on it. Have not had ANYTHING slip out of the tongs grip since the mod. :-)Otherwise, solid set of BBQ tools for sure.

Iβve always had a hard time with barbecue tools that tend to bend or you are not able to pick up a good piece of meat until I found these : heavy tools, and very sturdy. I totally recommend these for the barbecue amateur
