Cons: I compared this Amazon can opener to the “OXO Good Grips Soft-Handled Can Opener”. The oxo has a larger turning grip, a grippier handle cover, is made of thicker steel, and has a significantly stronger joint rivet.Pros: this Amazon can opener has a sturdier handle (the oxo has plastic handles which fit into the grippy surface, and a plastic can guide instead of the Amazon’s steel guide, the plastic guide looks to be likely to crack off if the oxo is dropped.)More of immediate importance, the Amazon product cuts the lid closer to the rim than the oxo one (which repeatedly failed to complete the last bit of lid separation and thus leaving a sharp remainder.), In other words, the Amazon product is half the price and does Not fail to completely separate the lid from the can, even on cans which have a smaller top crimp (Signature and DelMonte).

I searched for can openers. It’s not like the state of can opener technology has advanced tremendously in the last century. So you’d think there’d be at least one, good, high quality, solidly-built can opener out there, but it seems there’s not. So I went the opposite route and bought the cheapest one I could find, figuring when it breaks, at least I didn’t pay much for it. It’s worked fine so far. It actually feels pretty solid, though I’m pretty sure the metal loops on the ends of the handles are only there to give the illusion that there’s solid metal throughout the handles. In reality, the handles are metalized plastic. But hey, it’s working for now.I think more quality can be found in the “safety” can openers that cut from the side, but the metal filings problem those designs have scared me off and I decided to stick with the old style.

There are a lot of terrible manual can openers out there, which follows a frustrating trend of small household appliances and items that aren’t cheap, yet perform very poorly. Kitchenaid, Farberware, and Taylor are the biggest offenders in my experience as a cook, but there are endless “brands” farted out of mysterious factories that all deliver the same barely-functional trash. So I bought this can opener from AmazonCommercial, hoping for something different but expecting very little. I am happy (and frankly shocked) to say that this product actually works perfectly. It opens each can completely, all the way, without mangling the cans or my hands. The cutting wheel is angled properly and large enough to cut even if the can is a little bent, or if the can top naturally moves as it is opened. No longer do I have to try opening the same spot over and over again while my blood pressure rises.

Buy this can opener. Quit buying all those normal looking 8-12$ can openers. They all break. I have had to purchase a new can opener every six months, it seems for the last few years. They all work fine for a couple dozen cans or so, ( my dog and I eat a couple cans of tuna each week ), then the shotty craftsmanship begins to rapidly cause decline in performance. It gets MUCH harder to open a can. I repeatedly had to start over 3-4 times just to get all the way around one lid, as the can openers would loose their bite into the cans. This thing is perfect. Easy grip. Very little pressure gets the job done quickly and easily. BUY THIS CAN OPENER FOR YOUR HOME.

Both crank ends had burrs sharp as razors. Had to file them off to prevent cutting my fingers.
