I was looking for a scoop that didnβt require use of my thumb. I have tendinitis and signs of arthritis and sometimes the use of my thumbs is excruciating. Iβm hoping this set will be the answer as I can use my whole hand to grip and dispense and not just my thumb. The set arrived nicely packed in a reusable zip pouch. And, while there are some raw edges to the handle itself, Iβm not concerned as it has no bearing on its use, but I will be careful when cleaning up. They seem to be sturdy enough, and weighty, for working with cookie dough, pasta, meatballs, rice, etc., but I think I will stick to my regular scoop for ice cream, unless itβs soft. The first thing I did was measure each scoop capacity with my tablespoon. I filled each scoop with water until it was full and not overflowing. The largest held 4 TBS, the medium size held 3 TBS, and the smallest size held 1.5 TBS. Good to know when you want to measure portions. I am giving it 4-stars as I havenβt used them yet, but I will adjust my rating accordingly once I start putting them to use. I do think itβs a good value for the price and Iβm happy with the size/capacity options given. I hope this helps!

Set-up. For over 45 years I’ve done things the old-fashioned way – by hand. I’d gotten really good and fairly fast at portioning out raw cookie dough evenly and accurately for baking … my grandmother showed me how. At Christmas time, she baked cookies to distribute to the police and fire departments. She would start baking two weeks early to get them all done. By the age of 7 or so, I would help her after school, baking dozens of cookies. After she turned sixty-ish, she retired. I took over. I had one of those shooters for soft sugar cookies and a press, but most were done by hand. We moved south in ’91 and I introduced our family tradition to the area/city’s police & fire departments. They were hesitant the first year, then pleasantly surprised. I perfected & adapted recipes, taking comments and requests from all of them. Note: I haven’t gotten a traffic ticket of any sort in YEARS! They know us and our vehicles by sight. One summer, I met one of our patrolmen at a local mall. He greeted me by name, gave me his address & requested a particular flavor recipe for his wife to try. I sent a copy to him. We are on a regular recipe swap. Now to the review – Finally this year, my husband bought me these scoops. I did not want to use them, I was so used to doing things my way, but when he was leaving on a yearly week-long fishing trip and my cookies were requested (again as usual) – at least 6-8 dozen, I tried one to appease him and stop his nagging. To my surprise, the dough from bowl-to-sheet went faster. The sizes were as even as if I had done them by hand and I was able to get them onto the baking sheets in less time than I expected. The only thing I had to do to insure a clean use was lightly spray the scoop with Pam (or the equivalent).I’m not sure when I’ll be using the larger sizes, but the smallest one is in for some very heavy usage this Christmas season! We are talking HEAVY usage … each year has averaged 56 – 60 dozen, 9-12 different types/batches.

I’ve only used the medium and small sized cookie scoops so far, but they really are just perfect for portioning just the right amount of dough for the cookies I make. The handles are really comfortable in my hand and that’s saying a lot because I have smaller hands and a lot of the other scoops I’ve tried are just cumbersome. I also have RA so the “ease of the squeeze” is also very important to me. I didn’t experience any issues with the dough or scoop sticking or the scoops not expelling all of the dough. I’ve used them several times now and they’ve held up nicely. I recently made 6 dozen cookies and I was able to get them done quickly, efficiently and without causing a great deal of pain to my hands. I personally choose to hand wash them, although it says they’re dishwasher safe, and they’re quick and easy to clean especially if you have a bottle brush. I think these are great kitchen tools and would consider giving the set as part of a baking themed gift.

These scoops are great except for one not so minor problem. If you’re scooping anything sticky or thick then the tension makes the guide jump the track and you won’t get a nice, clean scoop release. I had to reposition and bend the connector in order to ensure it doesn’t jump the track anymore and it works great now. Other than that problem, they are the perfect size and comfortable to use.

I love shopping this way. The convenience and prices can’t be beat. I love Amazon. I wouldn’t shop any other way. I put my other store cards away.β€β€β€
