   In order to access the battery compartment, you will need an itsy bitsy screwdriver similar to one you would use to tighten an eyeglass frame. Personally, I don’t have one of those & do not want to buy one just for this. Most you can slide the cover off but not this one. I wrote to Dash about it & they just wrote back telling me what I already knew. I did not expect anything from them, I just wanted them to maybe change the access to the battery compartment.

   I have no idea how many meat thermometers we have been through in the last few years. Dozens maybe. I have melted some, got steam in others, overcooked because they were so slow to read…. Not this one! Literally just open to turn on, stab the meat and wait like 5 seconds. Bam done. Super easy to read too.Only downside is when you first get it, you have to open the back, unwrap the battery and put it back. When I did this, the silicone protector came out and it was difficult to put back.

   the joint feels kinda cheap but its quality enough for the price i suppose. other that that works as advertised. changing the batteries however is a huge pain, so i knocked the ease of use down a couple stars

   I work in a restaurant and time is money. I don’t have time for a thermometer to take its time telling me the temperature of food. Thank goodness for quick-read thermometers like this.This design is clean with an elongated pill shape. You pull out the probe and it automatically turns on. You can adjust the probe from 90 to 180 degrees. Temperature readings take seconds, and you want to make sure the probe is in the thickest part of whatever you’re measuring to get the most food-safety accurate reading possible. The LED display also adjusts its orientation should you change your positioning.I like the design and quick functionality of this product. The price is very premium for what it is, but luckily I was able to find a used one at a reasonable price. Recommended.
