I really had high expectations considering the lack of documentation that came with this sharpener but really it any documentation would verify that it takes more than just a picture to explain how to get most out of it. Working in an office, I am constantly cutting things up almost as frequently I am searching for a sharp pair β this sharpener can work but you need to do some homework to figure out if its right for you.The Fiskars SewSharp restore is a specific sharpener for paper and cloth scissors β I think. Unless you work in a setting where you are constantly cutting cloth or paper, very few us are aware that such items do wear the blade to dull, and even then, simply go out and buy a new pair. That may not be an option for the rest of us who are eventually stuck with countless dull scissors. Fortunately, Fiskars has created an almost foolproof way of restoring the like-new sharpness to all but the most worn scissors β by simply passing the blade across the white ceramic part a few times, you can save a trip to the store and increase the longevity of favorite scissors. At least that is the way it would have worked according to the pictures. In practice (and dependent on the dullness of your scissors) you will not be able to imitate the scissor motion to sharpen both blades at once. If the white ceramic portion is in any relation to my kitchen knife sharpener, then most likely itβs for the fine sharpening effect that will struggle with very dull and perhaps pitted blades. Ultimately, you really need to know your scissors. Look carefully the angle between orange plastic and white ceramic β does your pair have that steep angle blade that can fit that angle? There are a lot of scissors that cannot.Fortunately, most of my office scissors could fit and are as good as new β even if I need to set aside some time to make it happen. I supposed intended as a stopgap for people who would like to sharpen scissors without the skill itβs an almost surefire to reuse scissors so long as they not so far gone but even then, it still might help. It may not be able to save all your scissors but with a little effort into knowing your scissors and changing your expectations for this sharpener, you can make it work for you.

.. and I actually thought I might have ruined my Fiskar scissors, they felt duller after I tried to sharpen them. So, I ran over there and started reading all the reviews, and a few people described exactly how they got it to work for them. And I realized… I simply hadn’t done it enough times! I had run the blades through maybe 3 times, then tried to cut a piece of fabric, and it simply slipped between the blades. (I should mention here that these scissors are actually over 20 years old and have NEVER been used on fabric, I used to be a heavy duty paper crafter!) After reading the reviews, and grabbed that sharpener and my abused scissors and went to work. I counted each stroke, at 15 I tried them… they cut through the fabric (a small piece of an old sheet), but not quite perfectly… so on to another 10 strokes. And those babies are as sharp as when I bought them, if not sharper! I could now use them for fabric, but I have a “good” pair of scissors for my fabric use, so these will stay paper scissors for cutting patterns. But as for the sharpener? It works WONDERFULLY!!! These scissors were EXTREMELY dull, bending paper rather than cutting it… and now they cut fabric! WITHOUT expensive sharpening services. Yep, very happy with this little devil! It was a great purchase, was priced well, and it WORKS!

The first thing you have to understand is, like all cutting blades, not all scissors blades are sharpened at the same angle. This was easy to use with and did make minor improvements after about 50 strokes to the thin bladed plastic handled scissors at the top of the picture (next to the green check marks) but they’re far from being like new.It did no good at all and/or couldn’t be used due to blade width on the three pairs at the bottom with red Xs. In fact, the medical scissors (bottom right w/shortest blades/longest handle) ended up worse. I’m not going to return it, but I wouldnt buy it again. I think my sharpening stone is as easy to use (which is: not very easy) and gives a better result.I think this would work on, or the best use of this tool is to maintain the edge on Fiskars brand sewing shears because you know the grinding angle is the same. You know, the ones that look like the top sets in my picture except with orange handles. However, the best way to keep scissors sharp is to use your scissors smart, so you dont need to sharpen them. Have a dedicated pair for various materials. Paper, believe it or not, quickly dulls blades, even though it feels very easy to cut even with dull blades- so never use your good scissors on paper, keep the worn pairs for that. Fabrics will nearly never dull sewing scissors, so keep a dedicated pair and resist the urge to reach for those to open mail or wrap gifts or do craft projects other than cutting fabric. Sequins and anything metalis or glittery will also rapidly dull blades, so never cut those with your good shears.

I really liked this thing. I washed and dried All of my shears and scissors and went to town on ’em. I was finishing my Really damaged Fiskars shears when I broke it. Now it’s broken, and my scissors and sharper than ever! At this price, that was Well worth it.I recommend getting 2 or 3, they’re probably better for regular maintenance that actually reshaping the blades.??

My job requires me to use both fabric and paper scissors often, and they get dull quickly. This sharpener does a good job of keeping both type of shears sharp. It is small and portable and even has a pre drilled hole for the lanyard of my choice, or I can secure it to a bracelet. Great seller, rapid shipping, I would purchase this item from this seller again, and I probably will in a few months.

Orange color helps to find it.

This gadget works as expected to nicely sharpen scissors quickly and easily. Be careful with the βother ways to buy optionβ that generates a delivery charge greater than the cost of the item itself.
