This is a higher quality mandoline design and is rather heavy. You have 2 julienne selections for 4.5mm and 9mm (french-fry size) and several non-julienne settings. The adjustable slicer can get veggies super thin, which is absolutely fantastic for salads and other dishes.Recently, I just made an au gratin dish with potato slices and it turned out great. Making au gratin dishes can be laborious because you have to make sure the slices are not too thin but yet thick enough and consistent for the dish. This mandoline makes sure the slices are consistent. If you like cucumbers, you’ll love this mandoline for your salads. I can julienne (4.5mm) an entire cucumber in less than a minute and the cuts blend so well into the salad I’m almost tempted to add another one! Carrots are also cut very easily and adding to the salad makes it taste so delicious. If you’re one of those who likes to make a classic carrot raisin salad, this can save your knuckles. Buy a bag of large carrots and set the mandoline to a 4.5mm julienne and you’ll get perfect little elongated chunks of carrots. Add the raisins and whatever else and the salad will taste fantastic and super-fresh.Somebody say HASH BROWNS? Oh yeah. I tried this at the 4.5mm setting as well, grabbed a few large potatoes, and created some hash browns that would shame any restaurant. I don’t know why these tasted so amazingly good, but I’m not using the cheese block shredder anymore for hash browns. The design is pretty good. I did notice that you must have a straight path for the 9mm julienne setting or the very sharp and thin teeth will tend to bend a little for hard veggies like potatoes. You can bend them back with a little pressure and care, but to avoid this, use the rails as a guide so you’re moving in a straight direction. And course, be observant of how close your fingers are getting to the blades. The Gramercy Kitchen Co. mandoline has a foldable stand that is very sturdy and can resist a lot of pressure when you push down with your vegetables across the blade. Simple clean up is rinse with water and maybe a tad of soap (I use Mrs. Meyer’s).Overall, this is the best mandoline I’ve ever owned. It’s rock-solid sturdy which is a must for not only cutting consistent veggies, but a must for your safety and fingers as well.

I had another device that had different attachments on board and a safety cover that closed over the blade area when not in use. It had more of a plastic body compared to this model. I love the all metal part but for my being a visually impaired user of this one I must tell you to always use the glove that come with it or the pusher. I had to place the device upside down to remind myself that there is no blade guard so that these cuts on both hands will heal and go away. Placing on a old fashion school serving tray works best for me. The old one worked well lying flat on a large mixing bowl. This one works sitting down in a jumbo bowl slicing downward with that glove on for hard root vegetables. It’s not a bad device just be careful in using it and don’t get distracted while using it. I’ll try to adjust.

The included safety Gloves did not show the safety rating on the label. Gramercy brand product design and quality the same as the no name brand featured on Amazon. For $5.00 more you get a somewhat nicer box that gets thrown away and also the Gramercy name on this product. The $5 extra for the box and logo may be worth it if you are buying this as a gift. Personally, I will buy the no name brand and use that $5 towards my next purchase on Amazon. Whichever one you purchase, be sure to wear the included safety gloves when using and cleaning this very sharp mandoline slicing tool.

I was impressed with how well it slices, Once I figured it out. The big knock I have was the lack of written direction in English. I was less impressed with the phone help. It was great, like I said once I figured it out.Terry

I got this when my last mandolin broke, and I never realized how convenient having cut resistant gloves are. The blades are VERY sharp, so make sure you keep the guard on when not in use!

Anyone who cans and/or freezes food in the fall would benefit from owning this mandolin. I previously owned a $15 mandolin and struggled with it. It was hard to hold still and the blade wasnโt sharp for very long. This mandolin didnโt move around at all while I was slicing carrots, which are tougher to cut than most other fruits and vegetables. There is a nice range of slice thicknesses and the protective gloves that came with it are flexible which really worked well to protect my hands as I was cutting. This is one of those โyou get what you pay forโ items. For me it was money well spent.
