This is my 2nd one of these openers. To be fair, I open 8-10 cans in a session a few times a week which seems like it might be excessive so when the first one died, I wasn’t too surprised. I’m not giving it time to cool down and I can’t imagine that many cans is easy on it.I like that it cuts the lids so there’s no sharp edges. A lot of the electric openers out there don’t do that and I’m not interested in slicing my hand open. It also does it quickly and easily, just pop the can in the right spot and hold down the lever. After my first one died, I tried one of those battery powered can openers that sit on top of the can and rotate around on their own. While handy, the motor can’t keep up with one plugged into a wall and the novelty quickly wore off. For a bit I went back to hand opening cans but that many cans had my wrist screaming.I shopped for another option but it seems like this Hamilton Beach option was still my best choice so I’m once again opening cans without pain and without slow battery powered motors.Hopefully this one lasts longer than the one before it but for now I’m pretty happy.

It just arrived today. I used it to replace an older one that was just starting to get finicky. We have used the old one 2x+ daily for well over 5 years and never had an issue. With that said, let me address some issues other reviews have complained about.1. “The cord is too short” – The cord is plenty long enough. What most reviewers are complaining about is that this opener has a nice little feature that lets you adjust the length of the cord. All you have to do is push or pull the cord to desired length. I have mine sitting next to my microwave and plugged in the outlet that is close to the opposite side of the microwave.2. “It creates metal shavings.” Yes and no. It only happenings with certain can types or the can opener is left running making more than one trip around the can. Most can types don’t have this issue. Even if it does occur, the shavings won’t contaminate the can’s content. Just simply clear the can lid before removing. Not really an issue at all and well worth the tradeoff for this type of opener.3. ” Bits of glue can be left on the ridge of the can after removing the lid.” This is also only with some brands of cans. Also, it is more of a type of sealer to help preserve the contents of the can. When I encounter this, I simply remove it before emptying the can. Takes a couple seconds.4. “I can’t get it to work” Taking a wild guess here, but the lever at the top of the opener has a locking feature. Can rims can’t be inserted to open them while the lever is in the locked position. Just lift the handle and then try. I have yet to use a can that this opener doesn’t work on. The instructions do say that certain microwave style cans can be an issue. The instructions go over these potential issues and I am pretty certain that the 2 pages in the language the consumer uses aren’t being read. I’m a guy and I can attest that you can figure stuff out with the provided pictures within the 2 pages. So on to my review thoughts. I generally use it on cans where you can that have a pop-top where an opener isn’t needed. No issues and one perk to using this type of opener is if you can use a soft spatula to easily clean out the can of stuff. Ever scrap out the stuff that remains in a pop-top can? Let’s just say it’s nice to not have to worry about cutting into the sides of the spatula.Cleaning usually only involves just wiping dust off the can opener. Even if you use the opener on a can that was stored upside down, it still doesn’t get the contents of the can on the opener. Is it a perfect can opener? No, but is there one? Bottom line is it is easy to use by people of all ages. If you can lift the can to the opener, then you can operate the lever with ease. Arthritis, shaky hands(can holds itself while opening), child use, it doesn’t matter. What you end up with is a can with no sharp edges.

My beautiful wife asked me to purchase this for her. The first time she used it, she screamed “YAY!” and gave me a big hug and a kiss! I would say that is 5 STARS in my book. She loves that it cuts the entire top off (from the side as opposed to cutting the lid from on top). She is not one to leave appliances on the counter top, yet there it is! I was asked to go buy 3 more for our married children for Christmas.

I am an almost 70 year old woman with arthritis in my thumb. I bought this because I was no longer able to press down on my old can opener. This can opener needs no strength at allJust place the can against the can opener and just lightly press to lock and it goes around the can. Lift up the lever and lift up the lid on the can. No sharp edges, no dropping into the can. Love it. Wish I had bought it sooner.

As a single mom I had a tight budget so I couldn’t really splurge on anything. For years I have battled with cheap hand held and electric can openers that never worked right. I would do anything to escape having to open a can of something. There was always lots of cursing involved and I really wanted to throw them at a brick wall. Not anymore! The kids are grown and I finally treated myself to a good can opener. I LOVE this! Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store. I am in can opener heaven.

I grew up using a counter top electric can opener. It was a beautiful brightly colored plastic vintage number (new for its time) that worked perfectly and had a long lifespan. It was sold decades later at a yard sale (not to my knowledge, or I would still have it) and it could still be out there somewhere, on someones counter, performing consistently.I switched to hand-held openers in an effort to save energy; however, none of them perform easily. I tried all the variations.Cut to the last few months where my partner became plagued with hand neuropathy and I have to find an efficient electric can opener. After viewing and reading reviews for many can openers, I decided on this tried and true model. The product arrived quickly, was easy to unpack, and is plug and play ready.I like the simplicity of attaching a can securely and depressing the top lever. It works smoothly and easily with no struggle. The can opens below the lip, so no sharp edges to handle. The cord stores inside the base and is easy to pull out the length required to plug in. The unit is lightweight and easy to handle.I highly recommend this can opener and hope the company never messes with this perfection.

I bought this at a retail store just over a year ago. I love it SO much. Itβs easy to use and has never failed me. It uncrimps the cover so it just comes off the top and no metal shavings get in. Easy to use and clean. The cord just gets pushed inside for storage so No annoying cord to wrap up. I actually just moved and loved it so much it went in my suitcase ?
