I am a huge fan of this! While I do not have arthritis or am a senior, sometimes my jars are just IMPOSSIBLE to open alone. I decided to give this a try as I recently injured my left hand and I cook often so wanted something to just make my life easier. This product works great! I love that it can fit over every jar I tried. It can open my largest jars and my smallest baby food jars. It is very low tech and just fits snug over the cap and you turn and bam, it’s open. I am definitely going to buy a couple more as gifts for the elderly in my life.

They say it is an “Effortless Jar Opener”. Well, not quite. The problem I encountered was the gripping. it tends to slip on the smooth metal lids. They say that it is for seniors, with arthritis and weak hands. I have only two of the three attributes and I still had trouble opening a jar, so if I had all three, I don’t think it would work. The opener can be installed easily with three wood screws under your kitchen cabinets. That way, maybe you can get a better grip, but I feel that such an installation may damage the cabinets and certainly is not decorative. I am still giving it three stars (a neutral rating). The true and tried method is to gently hit the lid of the jar on a hard surface a few times. This will almost always loosen it and make it easy to open; have been doing it for decades.

Carpal tunnel syndrome? Kindle thumb? Yep, I spend so much time using electronic devices that I’ve been touched by both of these related afflictions. But for the most part, all that means is it’s really, really hard for me to open a jar of pickles (or peanut butter or jelly). So it was with a degree of eagerness (and fervent hope) that this gadget would take on that job with ease.My verdict? It helps. Mind you, I have no cabinet under which I can screw this baby without having the screws pop up on the inside; it’s just my hands, the device and the jar. And that, no doubt, makes it a little less effective; unless I get the jar lid firmly in its jaws, it doesn’t do much of anything. And even if I do, it still takes a bit of effort to get a positive result (review-speak for the lid pops off). So be sure to wedge the lid as tightly as you can in the jaws so it gets a good hold on it. Also, take care with plastic lids; those wicked little teeth pretty much chewed up the lid of a big bottle of cooking oil after I used it to unstick it.

I guess I am the target audience for this jar opener. I am a senior that is finding some jars, especially ones with large openings harder and harder to open. A friend brought a jar of homemade pickles to share. This jar was impossible to open. We tried tapping it with a hammer and on the sink, tried a silicone pad to get a more solid hand hold, warm water, cold water and nothing worked. I happened to get this Jar opener the day after and on the first try the lid unscrewed with no trouble at all. After that I decided not to mount the device but to use it as a handle-held and then put it in a drawer between uses. The longer handle provides great leverage and the small metal teeth grip the lid and hold firm.If you are having difficulty opening jars it may be time to make that process a whole lot easier with this handy device.

Over the past year or so, Iβve had several experiences when the tricks Iβve long used to open a jar donβt work. My little hands are getting old β along with the rest of me.Bare hands. Nope. Pop the vacuum seal and try again. Still no? This one is really tight. Try again with one of the silicone gripper pads I keep handy. What!?! Still no go. I was starting to think that I need some kind of a tool for those really stubborn cases, or else Iβd be knocking on a neighborβs door to ask for help. When I saw this jar opener, I decided to try it.The device is ergonomically designed with an easy-grip handle. It can be used on a range of jar sizes. Metal teeth on one side provide the grip, so of course, you can expect to end up with scratches on the lid you are tackling β especially plastic lids. The side opposite the teeth is smooth metal. A silicone coating would provide additional grip, but it would probably wear off fairly quickly.I tried the tool on several different sizes and styles of lids. It worked best on medium-sized metal lids. A plastic bottle top and a large plastic lid (which were stuck with sugar build-up) took a lot more effort but eventually gave way.I intend to continue exercising my weak little hands when facing off with an obstinate jar lid, but I will keep this tool handy for emergencies.

I tried to open jars of different sizes and not work. It would leave some scratches on your jars but won’t open anything.

This is actually a genius product. I bought this for my household as my dad has arthritis, my mom broke one of her arms, and I have carpal tunnel in both wrists (isn’t this fun!). So none of us really have the hand or wrist strength to be able to twist tops off of jars. But this product has been great! It fits (so far) 100% of the jars in my home. You simply fit the lid into the metal grooves and pull on the handle. It grips the jar lid and POP! Open jar.I have found that it doesn’t really require a lot of strength to pull on the handle to open the jars, but it’s not a stroll in the park either. But a little elbow muscle and you’re good. Overall, it has been extremely helpful and I’ll continue to use it.

This product does not work as advertised. If you have arthritis, this product will not solve you problem opening jars.
