Currently, metal recyclers are paying 50 cents per pound for aluminum cans. We realized there is now a need to flatten the empty cans so they won’t take up as much space in our garage. We tried hitting them with a mallet and stomping them with our feet. Not good. Finding this Mckay can smasher at such a good price felt like the best solution, especially with the numerous good reviews and 5 star recommendations it received. Mounting it was easy once we decided to put it on a solid wood door frame rather than a wall stud. Crushing the cans is as simple as setting the can in place and pulling the lever downward. We did discover quickly that giving each can a small squeeze first made it much, much easier to work the device. The best part of it all is that we can get at least three times the amount of cans in the same space. This is a quality made product that can make recycling cans a breeze. I’ve included a few photos. Notice the smashed cans are in a 10 gallon waste basket. There are 36 cans in it and they only take up 6 inches. Before smashing them, 36 cans would have taken up the entire container to overflowing. We also tried smashing our empty 16 oz water bottles. It works great to condense them down to a much smaller size but the lids have to come off before smashing then go back on afterward to ensure the bottle keeps its new smaller size.Only praise for this can smasher. Definitely recommended it to others that recycle.

Unless you have a tiny recycling can, or your can is constantly being filled by empty cans, you probably donβt need this.Granted, this device works fine and might be a reasonable addition to some households, it just doesnβt have a important function. It takes up space we donβt have, and it serves a function your boots already serve. Though it might be a nice gift to someone who has extra room to install this, it will more likely be a burden to install and take up space.

Does what it’s supposed to do and seems built well. Two tips: (1) pinch the can on either side just a little, near the top, to make it easer to crush; (2) watch where you mount it – although the handle is only a few inches above the device when it’s not being used, at full stroke downward to crush the can the handle will be 12″ below the bottom of the unit.

It’s a high quality and heavy product, but as some other reviews have stated, the handle naturally comes apart with use. The last time one of the securing nuts flew off, it landed right into a bag of crushed cans, and I had to empty it can by can until I found the nut, which had made its way INSIDE a crushed can at the bottom of the bag. You’ll probably want to put some Loctite on the hardware that secures the handle.

Initially did a batch of 100 or so beer and soda cans 12 0z – 16 Oz. Deducted one star only because it’s not big enough to do 32 Oz cans. Very sturdy, can’t figure why the few negative reviews. Pleased with purchase.

It was supposed to be the blue color that shows on your Amazon page, not dark blue, I would’ve bought the green one if I knew that I’d get the dark blue.

Handle loosened and then screw broke after just two weeks of use. Was able to put in a new screw but not sure how long it will last.

My 9 yr old son was struggling to operate this can crusher, as it’s very rugged and built tough! Hoping we can install it soon, as my kids are having a blast using it, and also encourages recycling β»οΈ This sturdy gadget will last us many years crushing cans, thank you for a product that is worth the $!
