Tried it for the first time to slice onions to make French Onion soup. Well, have to say, it does slice onions pretty nicely. Problem is, even though I knew I should have been using the guard, it doesn’t seem to fit properly. Could be completely my error. So I didn’t. Allow me to say, the blade is sharp. Very sharp. Sharp enough that it maaaaay cut through anything that comes in contact with it. My thumb will definitely agree.Use the safety measures it comes with.On another note, the blades slip out of the storage slots every time you move it.Not the item for me. Or my thumb.

This mandoline is exactly as described. So far, I’ve only used it for slicing. I was making au gratin potatoes, and the slicer whipped through a couple of pounds of potatoes in record time. The blade is SHARP!! I tried using the safety gadget that’s supposed to hold the food while slicing, but it didn’t hold securely. I couldn’t get it to work. I just held on to each spud, used great care, and stopped one slice short of the end. It’s easy to adjust, easy to pop blades in and out, and easy to clean. I like that the various blades/graters fit neatly and compactly into the included storage box. The item feels well made, and I expect it to last a long time. I can’t wait for next summer’s garden cucumber harvest, so I can use this slicer to make a jillion pickles.

I have to admit that I was extremely skeptical that this would be big enough to slice onions for which I mainly purchased it. I like to put sweet onions on my sandwiches when I go to make what could be referred to as a “Dagwood Sandwich” for us older folks that remember watching the old serial movies of Blondie from the cartoon strip. A fully loaded “stacked” sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese, multiple kinds of meat, and of course mayonnaise. It does have room for a full-size onion and for the first time I used a mandolin slicer to slice a tomato, I had always felt that tomatoes were too squishy to hold up to a mandolin slicer but this time it did hold up beautifully and for the first time I had evenly sliced tomatoes and lovingly put in my sandwich. As an acolyte of Alton Brown knowing his distaste for “kitchen gadgets”, I would normally not use such a thing as this, but let’s face it, not everyone has the culinary knife skills of a Gordon Ramsay or a certified chef and we are in need of these devices to do the slicing and dicing and other chores for us so we don’t make a mess of things. You will like this gadget very much if you decide to purchase it.

This is so smooth and sharp it doesn’t even feel like it’s cutting anything! It’s important to use the little holder as it will easily slice your finger REALLY nicely and you won’t even know until you’re bleeding all over! A couple of wishes: I wish you could slice small things such as radishes with it. The prongs on the holder aren’t long enough to hold it firmly enough to slice – same goes for when your vegetable gets down to the end. I hate chopping and slicing, so the more I can get it done for me the better! Also, it’s a bit of a challenge to slice directly into a bowl – just doesn’t line up right, I think you’d have to be flatten it and hold it up at a higher slant. That being said, I love it!

This thing is built to last and do a good job its whole life. I bought it to replace an old, much loved but worn out mandoline; this one is much better. The one thing I don’t like so much, is that the slices are only onethickness…its not adjustable. The thickness is real good for potato casserole but a bit thick for radish slivers. However, my husband thinks the thickness is real good. This mandoline is much safer than my old one…I cut myself many times but don’t think I will with this one. Easy to use.

I bought this one when it was on sale. Bought a similar decades ago and this one is MUCH BETTER with many safety features and the parts are easy to clean. Moreover, this one is more efficient and I feel much safer using it. I cut my hands at least twice with the old one. This one is a must have if you can get one for a great price!

I only use 2-3 of the attachments but overall love it! The only complaint I have is it’s kind of hard to clean. I’ve tried different sponges and such but it’s hard to get it all cleaned perfectly.

This is an awesome slicer. I have used the Swissmar before and I like this one even better. It is super-sharp and easy to clean by simply rinsing-off the snap-out blade. What is so cool is that it has easily-adjustable thickness and optional julienne-shredding (without changing the blade). This is a lot more versatile than having a separate julienne shredder inserts that are at different heights for variable-thickness. It can also do crinkle-cuts and grate cheese. Plus it’s cheaper, has a lifetime-warranty on the blades, and has a separate case for the blades. Be sure and use the food-holder when the food gets short to prevent cutting your fingers. I remember how sharp those blades are and I’m not going to get my fingers too-close again.
