I’ll start by saying if you’re looking for an ultra fine edge for precision cutting, this is not the sharpener to use. But if you get a chip or a roll in a pocket knife and need an edge quick, it works great. I’ve mostly been carrying it with my leather man since it’s my most vulnerable knife to damage. The sharpener fits easily in my pocket and it’s almost unnoticeable because of how light it is. This thing puts a nice functional and durable edge on any knife you put to it.In summary: don’t use it with your $1,000 kitchen knives, but it’s AMAZING for every day pocket knife use.

My son uses mine so much that I had to get another one. I use the ceramic side to touch up the edge. It does a good job on my knives

I have experience with the Lansky and Smith’s versions of pocket sized pull through sharpeners and the Sharpal 6-N-1 is better and significantly less expensive, and the build quality is good and sturdy despite the lower weight. I bought it to have a sharpener in my work truck in case I needed to sharpen a knife away from home. I use a more expensive sharpening system for collectible knives but one of these pocket sharpeners will very quickly put a paper slicing edge on a working knife and that’s all I need. Probably five draws through the carbide and five draws through the ceramic would make a dull blade slice paper. I did ten, and it’s not quite hair popping sharp, but plenty sharp enough to easily shave off paper slivers.I don’t generally like serrated blades but the Sharpal 6-N-1 has a rat tile abrasive rod to sharpen them. I considered the emergency whistle and small ferrocerium rod to be extras I didn’t need but they’d make this an excellent tool to put in the pouch on a nylon sheath of a larger fixed blade bushcraft knife. I left the corrosion resistant coating on the ferro rod so I can’t comment on how well it sparks (it ain’t rocket science so presumably it works well enough), but the whistle is loud. Contrary to a complaint I read in another review, this little whistle is loud enough that you should probably use hearing protection, and it’s a piercing tone that would be easy to hear at a distance.

I’ve mostly used the sharpening feature for my kbar during down time. The other features tend to be hard to deploy. This could be come easier with more use. Will follow up later

Bought it for portability, and the inclusion of a honing steel sold me.

This sharpeners are metal, not ceramic, which is much better, in my opinion. It also has a file, which is a much needed attachment. I like it, also, because I can carry it with my pocketknife, and use it to sharpen almost any hand tools I have that need sharpening.
