As I read in one other review I must concur the carbides are tucked into the yellow plastic pretty deep . I don’t believe I used this sharpener more than half a dozen times when I noticed it was wearing down pretty fast . I was not excessive on the pressure while drawing the blade through nor did I sharpen any but straight smooth edged knives . Pocket knives 2 1/2 to 3 “ . Today it failed to give me an edge at all . I dint know if it wore down or if the carbides sank into the plastic . I believe the design could use a bit of tweaking . I wont buy another .

I agree with some of the reviews on here that this might not be the best way to sharpen your blades. Having said that, I will say it is the best handheld sharpener I have ever used. The option that lets the carbide blades move is genius. You really get a nice edge on your blades and the edge seems to last longer than with other handheld sharpeners. I would definitely recommend spending the few extra dollars and getting the Work Sharp.

I saw a model nearly identical to this on the Leatherman site. It looks like it was this model but branded for them. So I found this one for a few dollars cheaper. I ran my 10 year old Leatherman Wave blade it as it was pretty dull. I was amazed at how easy it was to get a very usable edge on the blade. I ran it through the sharpener then the honer about 20 times each, and it was able to cut paper with no problem. Impressed!
